On 11/11/2000 a Tanker containing Ammonia Gas skidded off the road at Paddi near Balli, Cuncolim. The Ammonia Leakage caused damage to vegetation along an area of 1 kilometre. The driver of the tanker lost control of the vehicle and went off the road damaging the rear cork of the tank. The pungent Ammonia odour caused a burning sensation in the eyes causing respiratory problems to the public, however no fatality was reported. The said incident was attended by Goa State Fire & Emergency Services.
