On 08/10/2009 Canacona was affected under flash floods. Two persons were feared dead and over a thousand people were affected in the Taluka. Incessant rains hit most parts of Goa, resulting in disrupting of rail and road traffic. Damage to crops was apprehended as fields had been flooded. Among the worst hit villages affected by flood water were Galgibaga, Sadolxem, Poinguinim, Bhatpal, Mashem, Babrem and Poinguinim.
